Okay, Brandon, how about some ID's? I can recognize the MAC, the Glestain, the Hattori, and the two Nenox; the santoku, honesuki, cleaver, and parer are what?

BTW, I see that you got a handle mis-match on the Nenox. Me too. I have a 150mm petty whose handle is even darker than the one on your gyuto; the other six are all more or less the same as your sujihiki's handle. Any idea what the cause is? A knot in the burl? The age of the tree the wood came from? Environmental effects on the wood?

I think it is a variation in the stain used from batch to batch.
Dojo 100mm Petty

Mac 120mm petty

Tojiro 150mm honesuki

Tojiro 165mm Santuko

Hattori 210mm Gyuto

Nenox 240mm Gyuto

Glestain 270mm Gyuto

Nenox 285mm Sujihiki

Cleaver no clue.
Trying to figure that one out myself. Where's Andy when you need him? I'll post some more pics of the cleaver.

Really? Shows what I know: I thought the wood was just sealed with something clear; I didn't realize they were stained. Still...that's one hell of a variation for a company that seems to have such a good QC department! In my case, my petty's handle looks more like the snakewood handles that Korin used to sell....

I heard that if you rub them with mineral oil on a consistent basis thwt the lighter one will become more redish brown like the other ones. I may give it a try.
Have you seen Morimoto's gyuto. Damascus clad Cowry X with Stag anteller handle. It makes me drool like Homer Simpson.

Mmmmmmm...Morimoto's gyuto.....

As to the mineral oil trick: in my case, I think I'd rather match the petty to the rest of the S-1's rather than darken all the others to match the petty.....
