Retrevr and I have been exchanging PM's about the Morimoto knife set available from http://www.foodtv.com. They look like the Nenox knives. I know nothing about them. Does anybody have any information beyond what the web site states?

I can't say that I know for sure, but I too believe that they are by Nenox. G-Series I should think. The description of the set states that it is a 6" gyuto, 4" deba, and 3" petty. However, a close look at the picture shows the petty to clearly be more than 3". I suspect that this set is the Nenox G-Series Gift Set listed at www.sushi-knifes.com/Nenox.htm. (http://www.sushi-knifes.com/Nenox.htm.) There the set is described as a 18cm gyuto, 15 cm yodeba, and 13.5cm petty. The petty in the Food Network ad looks more like a 13.5cm than a 3" to me. I would guess that they merely stamp a Morimoto logo and signature on the left side of the blade of this set. A good deal as far as price goes: the G-Series regular set is listed at $220; the Morimoto version at $160. The drawback, of course, is that the gyuto and yodeba are rather short.

Nenox seems to have a thing for issuing Iron Chef versions of their knives. A year ago I ran across an ad for a Chef Sakai version of the Nenox S-1 230mm sujibiki in a limited edition of 100 for a whopping $700! Apparently it did not sell, and was quickly dropped to $250. It now is for sale for $200 at www.buyironchef.com/irchefsakkni.html (http://www.buyironchef.com/irchefsakkni.html) which is quite a bargain, considering a standard 230mm S-1 at japanesechefsknife.com is $279!

Sorry. I just tried the URL's in my previous post and noticed that the first one doesn't work when I click on it. The address is correct, though, and works when you type it into your browser's address window. I'm really new at this posting stuff, so if anyone can tell me what I did wrong I'd sure appreciate the lesson.

The problem is not you. It is the software for this forum. It automatically creates links when you type a URL into your message. However, it is not parsing the link correctly. It's including the period and the end of the sentence in the link.

Note that Fred put a link to foodtv.com at the end of a sentence, hence it links to "foodtv.com." instead of "foodtv.com". The same happened with your link. However, his was to a domain and yours was to a page. You can put an extranneous period at the end of a domain and it will work in most browsers, however the same can't be said for a file. For example:

http://www.cnn.com.
http://www.cnn.com/index.html.

Without the periods, these link to the same page. The top goes to the domain and automatically finds "index.html" the base page. The bottom is explicitly looking for a page, but there is no such file as "index.html." just "index.html".

Make sense?

Fred, if you can set this, see if you can get the software to parse out puncuation at the end of a URL, otherwise some links at the end of sentences or before commas won't work.

Man, I thought I quit being a web developer to go to cooking school!

Thanks for the explanation! It was clear enough that even I could understand it!

What a relief! I've been lurking on various forums, afraid to register and post lest I screw up something. I was about to go back into hiding because of this URL problem above.

Thanks again, MM!
