Thought you guys 'n' gals would be interested in this little snippet about a great barbecue place in Berkeley, CALIF. It's called "Looneys" and yes the owner's last name is "Looney"!
If you're interested, here's the link to a little publicity he received a while back aired on cbs5:
First, go to his website which is: www.kenlooney.com

When you get to the restaurant's website, click on the link that says "Eye on the Bay"
San Francisco's local CBS station takes people around for great eating spots located throughout the Bay Area. And---unlike San Francisco itself----these eateries are fairly inexpensive.

Hope you like it!

C-Dawg, funny you should post, since I was just there with my daughter for lunch today. I mentioned to Ken (the owner) that a member of this forum works at Rick and Ann's and I mentioned your wonderful video posted on "youtube". Hope you do get a chance to visit soon. Introduce yourself because he's really getting into this forum.
I know barbecue and Berkeley is kind of ironic, but the place is doing great considering it's at the very west end of campus by Oxford and Bancroft (to my knowledge this is the only restaurant that's had a ghost of a chance at this location in several years!)

The special (which I didn't order 'cause I go there for RIBS) was pulled pork with "North Carolina sauce". The specials come with choice of two sides. The woman sitting next to us ordered it with beer-battered onion rings and one other side. She'd never been there but said she'd be back with family in tow. Sides include collard greens, mashed sweet potatoes---my fave) garlic mashed potatoes, cole slaw and several others that I can't think of off the top of my head.

I ordered and shared with daughter the SPICY Kansas City baby back ribs with double order mashed sweet potatoes (which we took home). The owner had just finished some bread pudding with whisky sauce which he offered and we also took home. That's waiting for dessert for tomorrow night.
