ramm.....looking good...you know what's funny.....that is a little different than their normal pattern for a gyuto.....did you give them special measurements......i did snd them measurements and yours loks just like mine....i got a kuro-uchi finish though.....i wonder if they made them at the same time...lol.......as for the finish....they coat it with alot of lacquer.....mine had the lacquer cleaned off and it was etched to make the pattern very bold.....it looks cool and is starting to form a patina......great first purchase.....you're off to a great start......ryan

Thanks for reposting. Very nice. Love the pics. The 2nd pic freaked me out thinking the edge was on the bottom. The damascus seems more pronounced than other pics I've seen. Is it just the lighting? Has anyone tried etching their Moritaka Damascus blades yet? I'd like to see some really good before and after shots. I wouldn't worry about the small little apparent crack in the spine. It doesn't go all the way through. Someone a long time ago had the same issue with a Watanabe and it apparently is not uncommon. Watanabe said it goes down maybe 1mm but not much more. It will not affect performance. Overall fit and finish looks very high-end. AS damascus clad gyuto...that's very nice.

What the...why didn't you....get back here....are you listening to me? Ryan, there are no pics in your show & tell thread. There are certain responsiblities that come with being ALLOWED to post here on FF (wink). One of them is posting pics of your knives. Even before and after pics of misc projects. This also includes reprofile, blade polishing, etc.

I'm waiting...:D

thanks Bob..
at first i thought the damascus pattern would be subtle (as i've seen it from the other pics) but then when i received mine, the pattern is not as subtle as i thought it was (well at least under my lightning)..

thanks.. i haven't measured the actual length, i'll measure it later.. i want to remove the lacquer on mine too, how did you do it? just by using acetone?

i've seen yours at KF.. however, could we still get more pics?? as the pics at KF were't so clear :p can we get like bigger pics ;) how many knifes that you've etched?? i think i would like to etch mine too, but maybe later, if the knife got uneven patina for example

This is where I did most of my research. I recommend getting one at least that uses AA batteries. Easy to find new if yours die. I have the Canon A80 and I've that Canon generally has great stuff.

Nice Moritaka! It's a beaut - I love the Santoku shape, did you order it specifically with those specs? What's the width on it? Reminds me of a Takeda Gyuto.

well as a matter of fact i didn't go for any details how i wanted my knife profile should be.. it's just turned out as the way it is.. well yes i asked for the length and damascus clad, but that's it.. i just measure the exact size as the following:

length: 240mm
width: 46mm (at the tang/bolster to heel)
spine thickness: 4mm (at the tang)
weight: 205 gr

fleet....i just got a moritaka with a takeda-esque profile....i'll take some pics of that too......bob....thanks for the advice

as far as etching the moritaka.... did it with dave at his house.....he has instructions on kf about how to do it exactly....it is super easy to do.....he helped me do an antique pocket knife too ......it took like 10 minutes.....it was hard to take off the lacquer....he wound up using some type of stripping agent he had in some weird jug.....i'm sure if you asked him he would be able to recommend what to use......when you do it....make sure you are careful....ferric chloride is hazardous!!!!!......ryan
