Peter Hjoertberger, founder and owner of Fallkniven, has announced his intention to sell his company and retire. He has had some health problems and this has, apparently, motivated the decision.

Peter is the first knife manufacturer to bring VG-10 bladed knives from Japan to the U.S. and Europe and will always be known as Mr. VG-10 to folks in the industry. His knives have become famous around the world for their excellent design and quality. He is not only a successful cutlery entrepreneur but a good and honest man. I've always considered him a friend and I wish him well.

I read that he is going to sell the business, unless he cannot get a good enough bid, in which case he will wind it down (Fred? Any spare cash hanging around? Feel like moving to Sweden?).

His mark is all over that business. It is hard to see another "corporation" taking it over and keeping it the same. It will need to be bought by a company run by a knife nut to maintain it's leadership position. Hopefully, the buyer will help to grow it and extend it into new markets. Fallknivens are very hard to find here in Ontario. I believe there is only one official distributer, and I believe they are the only reseller as well, not counting the internet.

I wish him good luck and good health. I don't have one of his knives but I intend to. They are fabulous and unique products.
