View Full Version : OT: Augusta National pray
Sorry for this OT topic, but as an Argentinean, handicap 8, golf nut, today I feel like saying a little pray:
Dear God:
I pray Thee for the first time in 40 years (not that I forgot You and Your Holy Mercy):
Please enlighten Cabrera and let him win!
ˇVamos Pato, carajo!

Phil blew it on 15 and 17, and Cabrera is looking mighty shaky.

Cabrera won the best Master's I've ever seen and I sure have seen a bunch of them over my 62 years.

Dear Lord:
Thank You very much. I promise not to bother You in the next 30 years.
A great Master indeed. I'm still shaking.
Cabrera certainly is a great golfer. With a US Open and now a Masters, he is in very special company. I'm sure the Argentinos are celebrating. It was a great finish. Perry looked unbeatable leaving the 16th hole and fell apart on the 17th and 18th to let both the other golfers enter a playoff. Cabrera was the only one to be able to keep his wits and play good golf throughout the playoff. His par on 18 during the playoff was simply incredible. It was certainly one of the most memorable finishes in Masters history.
Fred: you can't imagine the humble origins of this guy as a caddie. It's moving to see him win with so much natural talent. His short game is truly amazing and he can smash drivers that raise wows from the very pros.
True must be said: that fortunate bounce in the 18 was heavenly.

Lee Trevino also started as a caddy as did Chi chi Rodriguez. I'm sure a few more of the old timers also started as caddies though I've never played a round of golf with a caddy in my life not from wanting too they just don't exist anymore.
Many professional golfers came from humble origins that didn't include golf at all. Not all of them were sons of country club members or golf pros. I would guess the pro golfers represent a true cross section of backgrounds. The one thing they share in common is a gift for striking golf balls.
I guess the persistence of caddies in Argentina may be related with poverty and the big wealth span between social classes. Anyway, each year there’re less an less of them and not indeed because poverty problems are being solved, but rather cause it’s expensive for the subsumed middle class and the proliferation of carts.
Cabrera begun caddying at age 10. At age 20 he turned a pro. That’s a great success for an underprivileged kid. An now the Masters. Go figure the wonderful barbecue is waiting for him in Villa Allende, Córdoba!
Cheers.
great for angel and argentina. that was some finish. after going in the trees I thought he was done.
