Curious, I've seldom ever seen them in stock at EE, always listed as backordered. Many times I've seen them listed at JWW but no comment as to being backordered but people here have placed orders and had to wait a long time.
These are well thought of knives and I'm hardly using my 165mm Santoku and it occurred that I could probably sell it for enough, even though it's used but well cared for. I'd hate to have the empty slot in my block so may not sell it, knowing I change favorites from time to time.
Are they available, are they valuable?
Funny but I've become so attached to my Kumagoro Petite Santoku that it's the first knife I grab most days.

Seems like there are sources from time to time, but more interest in other blade types. I passed on two different Santoku(s) at Japan-Tool a few months back and now regret it. Both were from Nakaya Heiji, one polished to Shigefusa style. These are special blades and have a charm all their own. Yours is certainly unique and no doubt you would miss it if sold. Look at how different these are !!

Enjoy as long as you can !

Different strokes for different folks .. for sure ....
I enjoy Santoku blade profile which is likely why I grabbed a Takagi Wa-Gyuto when they became available ... so much like a Santoku on steroids!
I share your refocus on different blades in the block as time passes. It's like revisitng an old friend and reacquainting with faded memories.
An empty slot is not taken lightly .........
Had you posted a pic of your Shigefusa ?

Hi Jannie -
I just literally just got my first Shigefusa delivered yesterday, and I've spent the last 24 hours coddling it :D I went through SEVERAL sources trying to get my hands on a 240mm Kitaeji gyuto, and everyone I spoke to said it was easily 6 months before anything would get delivered, and it could realistically be even up to a year, depending on which knife. EE wouldn't give me any firm dates, Japan Woodworker said I could get on their "list", and Takeshi at aframestokyo was the most helpful, but even he said he's not placing any orders with them right now so they don't get overwhelmed.
I posted a request on KnifeForums to see if anyone would consider selling theirs, and I had several people tell me I probably wouldn't have any responses. Thankfully, 1 person decided to come through and sell me his, for the same price I'd pay buying it new from aframestokyo. To me that seems about the general rule of thumb. These knives are so well thought of and so well made, if you are able to find one the cost is going to be whatever the retail price is currently set at regardless of the condition. If you find it for any less than that, consider yourself fortunate.
Coincidently, just this morning someone posted an ad for 4 smaller Shigefusa knives over on KF. I scooped up the 180 santoku, and I'll bet the others go by the end of the day.
I hope that helps you making your decisions.

I have a 225 Guyto on order once I receive it (it's been almost a year) I will probably sell my 180.

Jeff, haven't seen you around much. Any chance you will get rid of the Watanabe Kinatrou Ame gyuto?

I lurk daily.
I'd love to sell it, no one ever responded to the ad I had in the classifieds. It's actually sitting in my office right now because I was going to send it to JKS to have a Stefan handle put on, you interested? I also have an unused Watanabe Pro 270 suji I wouldn't mind divesting myseld of. I have a jones for a Susin INOX Wa 270 suji.
