depending on the severity of the burn there are different options. coincidentally, i am nursing a pretty nasty one on my forearm now that i am told makes me look like a war hero (mom can be so dramatic)

for less severe ones that do not open up and create an open wound, a blister band-aid works wonders. they cover and waterproof the area, and contain everything you need to accelerate healing. idk if you can use this on open wounds but maybe. similar items can be found at cvs and they all work pretty well.

also, any sunburn remedies usually work. when i get one in the kitchen, i use the advice from my first chef in a pinch. this is to pour vinegar or rub mustard on it. usually soothes it but i cant really say if its right or wrong. baking soda can work too if you make a paste out of it.

when you get the chance, the age old remedy of neosporin and covering it when necessary (to keep it clean at work and during sleep) and airing it out when applicable is what i always do and its worked well for me. this never happens during service, but if you do something to get you through it there are plenty of great things you can buy if you are worried about scars and the like.

There's also a natural solution; Hypericum perforatum.
I had to look for the english name; St.-John's wort.

They make a reddish oil of the leaves that really helps when burned, also from sunburn! You can make it yourself by cutting a lot of leaves and put them in a glass container together with any vegetal oil like sunflower. Put it in the sun for a week or more and there you go.

If you buy it you need the oil, which is always made for external use, not the tincture which is for internal use; tincture is used for... mental depression and stress.

I dunno...the second version sounds handier for a pro kitchen!:D

I'll go with KC on this one. We used to joke, you haven't earned your Sargeant stripes until you have 3 at one time.

The scars fade over time. Most of my forearm scars are gone now and even the brand I got on my bicep with a screaming hot broiler grate has disappeared.

It's the internal and mental injuries that I feel are the most dangerous.

For treatment I used real aloe from the plant for the burn (Kept one in the window) and vitamin e spread on the scar.

+1 heal with antibiotic ointment and nonstick bandages

+1 minimize scarring with the vitamin e.

Aloe works a treat. Keep a plant going in a sunny window, and when you burn yourself just break a bit off and rub the clear goo on there. Then cover the wound with a bandage.

Do not break a burn blister -- it will heal better unbroken.

Yup. Silvadene is the best stuff around for burns. My doctor was kind enough to write me a prescription for it after I showed him a couple of my more recent wounds. I'd never even thought about looking online for it.
