I do not know how many of you knows the custom knife craftsman by the brand 大祐 (Daisuke).
His homepage is here:
http://dai-knives.com/
In his blog here http://blog.dai-knives.com/ he had a mirror finished blue super Funayuki 155mm with custom handle which I must have it.

This knife is coming to me soon.
Will post some pictures when it arrive.
BTW this craftsman makes hand made custom knives and kitchen knives and the prices are not so expensive because he is young and still learning.
Recently he tries to make all hand forged blue super kitchen knives (cladded) .

DrNaka,
I looked at his knives and they look nice. Is the handle in this funayuki painted and lacquered?

The paint is made by his brother who is a lure maker.

I think it is air-brush paint. (hope that is the English term but I am not sure)

I got the knife in post Monday.
Seller said if it is regular mail shipment is free.
Because I have faith in Japanese Post I choose the free shipping. The packet was just wrapped in paper and the knife was not in a box.
Here are the pictures. It tells that it is a nice knife and I am bad at photographing .
A 155mm long blade very sharp out of box (or out of wrapped paper :D ) It is a big petit...

The name (brand) of knife 大祐
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_q79XyG78fPI/S2g_RUfwxWI/AAAAAAAAAXU/fD6PiQ3kSzI/Dai02.JPG
Very slim.
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_q79XyG78fPI/S2g_SW7XKVI/AAAAAAAAAXc/hIsGKRjqHt0/Daichoil.JPG
Rounded Choil (Spine was rounded too)
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_q79XyG78fPI/S2g_eYqpZUI/AAAAAAAAAXk/V3w7Mkx8ECo/Dairound.JPG
Bad out of focus spine shot at handle.
About 3mm at handle tapered to 2mm at 3cm from handle.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_q79XyG78fPI/S2g_eZGM_zI/AAAAAAAAAXo/y3nmYFADjso/DaiSpine.JPG
I used it without sharpening myself for 2 meals and it is still sharp. I think as a home cook I can use it 1 month without sharpening. It is cladded Aogami Super.
At tip it is only 1mm thick so I must pay attention not to bend it. If I bend it is easy to correct with fingers.

This knife is very light at 96g.
Now there is a similar knife at auction
It uses White 1.

He has a small White 1 nakiri too.

If you can win the bid at 6500Yen or so it will be about 100 to 110USD if you use an agent.
It is a bit expensive for a little kitchen knife but you will have one of a kind knife.

Congratulations, DrNaka!
Will you let the knife build a patina or will you be using metal polish on a regular basis?
DrNaka

The mirror finish is too pretty to let Patina form.
For now I oil with Camellia oil after washing and drying.

Would have preferred it with just the comment "I cut salami with it".
The reference and the superiority of the cut is obvious :p
