    Tim,
Very Nice Handle work you have done here, Also great home made Micarta!
I have one little tip for you, When you tape up the blades to protect them use the 3M Blue painter's Tape instead of masking tape. It removes much easier and does leave that sticky film and clumps of white goo on the steel.
You can get the cheapo Chinese made Blue Painters tape from harborfreight.com if you're on a tight budget.

I mostly use the 3M Blue tape, Saves a lot of time on clean-up and can reuse some of it!
    Keep up the great work!

Goodwill, Salvation Army & Yard sales are great places to find old clothes in different & Vivid colors for making micarta!

I usually use the blue tape for the rods when I build them, but didn't want to hurdle over the stack of boxed to get into my rod shop, so I used what I had downstairs. I gotta buy more tape anyway, so I willget more blue tape. With the tape residue, it also forces me to have to clean the blade really well, which isn't a horrible thing!

For now, I am prefering to work with repeatable colors that are clean, don't have stains and I know what they contain fiber wise. I will branch out into clothing and stuff, but for the learning process, I want repeatability.

    Tim,
As far as cleaning Blades goes, I have Home cooks and even some line cooks bring in chef knives to be sharpened that have so much food, Fish gut Slime Etc built up on them that I have to clean them before I sharpen or they make the shop stink! When the get warmed up by a few passes on the sharpening belt. Especially the fillet knives!

The best product I have found that will de slime and get the hardened potato's off the blade is Goof Off!
It's a paint remover, They have a spray bottle version that's a little toned down from the industrial strength.
That's the one I use for Blade clean up! Works on white tape goo also!

I have a batch of Redwood burl, Cal Buckeye, Red Palmwood & Maple at K & G Supply, They are one of the first Pro, Stabilizer's for the Knife maker industry.
Any way! I may be interested in trading you some woods for your Blue home made Micarta if you are interested?

I just talked to the Stabilizer Man tonight and will have some wild stuff back in about a month!
So let me know if you want to trade?

    Keep! Having Fun!

I may be interested in some trading, but I gotta get the material a bit more solid. Haven't gotten a chance to make a second batch up yet.

Got bored, so I chopped up a bunch of various fabrics to see how it would look. I'm closing in on a nice blue camo!! Going to remove the Burlap and add more blue fabric and blue yarns to the white with a little dark blue thrown in there.

So something that will have 2 different blue/aqua colors, some dark blue and some white to break it up a bit. The other stuff was just too dark and similar colors across the board. I'm getting better with the bubbles, but I think I will end up having to accept some bubbles unless I can get a massive press and thick molds to withstand the pressing power. I did one that I took some filings/sanding dust from the handle material, mixed it with 5min epoxy and filled in the holes with that and let it cure, then smoothed it out. Seemed to work ok.

Played with some burlap layering with teal blue cotton yarn between every couple layers.

Sanded down the end at around 45 to see what the layers look like. Needs more yarn, but should look pretty cool! Piece is only 1/4" thick, so it will need some spacer or liner to it. I did get some blue Fiber Spacer, and I have bronze and brass, or I can use thin G10 or Micarta.
