    Knock away!

Fact of the matter is they are cheap knives. It makes sense for Australians to carry cheap, disposable knives as they may be confiscated by cops or have to be thrown away surreptitiously as we have very strict Carry laws here.

Also, I am a cheapskate. lol

LOL in Sydney, 'no helmet' is a $120 fine and that's just for a bicycle - motorbikes is a lot more and you can lose your licence and insurance will not pay out.

I think there is a Carry exception for SAKs etc but I would imagine it doesn't apply if you are a streetpunk. I take care not to carry anything bigger than my Opi No. 7 or 8. The SAK Trekker which looks kinda badass stays in the car.

Anything that can be opened with one hand will attract attention from the Law. I recently had an ebay package containing a Spyderco straight-edged rescue and a black mini-tanto confiscated by Customs. Good thing they only cost $28 all up, I knew there was a chance they might get swiped. Got a nasty warning letter from the Guvmint, too.

The Carry laws in this State do have exceptions based in reasonableness though - you have to have a 'reason' for carrying a blade, eg a chef/butcher taking his knives or fishermen carrying filleting knives (I used to wear mine on my belt when I was young lol before the laws came in).

That makes sense,I almost always took my motorcycle to work free parking my Scottish side blood.I strapped knife bag & at times a leather bag wt. Ice chisels never got stopped. It is not an uncommon sight to see cooks going to work carring their knife bags. For sure you cannot walk around wt. a Bowie on your belt unless you are a Pig hunter in the mountains.

The guys who trim the coconuts off the trees carry around sharp Macheti,no one thinks twice about it.I am surprized you had the E-Bay blades confiscated & the nasty letter,I guess I thought Australia was more loose I guess not.Is New Zealand the same laws or similar to Australia?

    I second that Jimbull!,
This is my Country Hands down, I've never really had any problems with belt knives here. Just go about your business like any other good citizen would do.
I've been a Knife maker for close to 20 and now have a cutlery store. So I've always carried a biz card with me as I wear a new belt knife pattern or have a pocket clip folder knife with me.

I've even sold a few that way when a police officer has seen one of my customs on my belt and asked me about it.

I always have a 10% discount for Leo's. Works every time. Never any trouble.

    SEB,
Open a Cutlery store in Sydney or become a knife maker. Besides! You will get to play with knives all day!

Good idea Laurence, a cutlery store is always fun unfortunately the ones here are run by women and they are arrogant they think there is only one sharpener in this town and I am always fixing his stuff, i even did a demo for them and they said the only way to sharpen a knife is on a belt sander stones don't work. I quickly packed up my stuff and laughed all the way out the door as I left a customer list of unhappy customers they recommended to this guy, jmbullman

In Hawaii Waterstones are used alot in Hotel kitchens, perhaps because of the heavy Asian influence here.Good sharpening tech. is harder to find except with most Japan nationals.

I think you have to go up in the mountains of North Carolina, bet some of those Hill billy"s put on a good edge wt. Ark. stones.

I love my arks but don't use them as much as I used to, stainless is getting harder and I really only use them on my carbon Sabs and a few others. Sometimes nostalgia just wins over speed and memories of me on granddads lap watching him sharpen his old timer. Good times, good memories. Jmbullman
