Yep same knife Madrookie,got mine about a year ago.I like to restore old carbon folders,wanted to try the M390 steel after reading about it.The smooth action & locking are the best,& that steel is well you have to use it.Even at 179.00 it is an excellent folder.

Is good value for money - though not my cuppa tea - I prefer better steels.....
They are cheap for what you get,their stainless is Sanvic 12C27,they have that roll collar lock that is less than perfect,it works but make sure you have it snug.I get cheap folders fr. swapmeat,some very old blades all carbon steel.I bought a openial carbon for I think 2 dollars cleaned it up.It is not a bad blade, but not even in the ballpark of the Spyderco,superb lock,good grip handle for full force cutting & steel that you pay through the nose for.I think at first Spyderco was the only knife with M390 Uddeholm was not making that much of it.Now it seems some custom knife makers have got their hands on the stuff.I maybe wrong about this,but I did read it somewhere.
Thanks keith i guess u get what u pay for. I was hoping it was going to be like the tenacious g spyderco made here and sent the parts to china for assembly, usually I avoid Chinese made stuff but that knife is a winner espically for a work knife. JmbullmAn
The opinel knife i have was so stiff i had to dremel out the handle on both sides of the blade just to be able to open or close it. worst fit and finish in the universe. however the collar lock is a good idea and the blade steel seems relatively hard. too bad the execution is so poor

I have about ten Opinels now - a mix of the regular shape (No's 7, 8, 10 & 12 in carbon and 19C27) and a couple of Éffiles (which I use as steak knives - No.12 at home and No.10 in the glove box for eating out).
Two had the same problem you describe - I found an easy fix by banging it firmly a couple times on something hard but yielding enough not to distort or scratch the soft collar steel. If the knives are not used for a while they will tend to 'lock up' - some more so than others.
I think these are great knives and I have several scattered around the car, house and my backpack and work bag. I could go on about how much I like these and why but I am sure everyone's heard it all before.

Seb I was not knocking the Opinels I think it is a good knife for the money.The older carbon I restored takes a fine edge & is a nice length.The collar lock on mine is the old one,I believe they have improved the collar on the newer models.It is a handy blade that can do alot of cutting duties as I'm sure you know.But the Spyderco M390 is durable as heck,a truely great folder & expensive.
