    Default la riots

twenty years ago today marks the anniversary of the la riots and a day i will never forget. the riots began on a wed afternoon. i was a newlywed and my then wife, vivi, had a role shooting in pasadena on thursday. i took the day off and went with her. as we drove along the 10 fwy, we could see the city ablaze with fires all over. at the location, it was as though someone was burning leaves down the street, the air was filled with smoke. the shoot was in a jewelry store, and in the back room they had a tv, where i sat all day mesmerized at the happenings. there was an 8pm curfew, but the riots threw the shoot off schedule, and they only had the location for one day, so we didn't get out until about 11 pm.

as we took the 110 to the 10 fwy, right thru downtown, we were the only car on the fwy coming or going!!!! sur f'ing real! like omega man la. i still can't believe it.

that was quite a moment in time for angelinos. can't we all get along?

At the time I worked closely with the LAPD. I recall listening to the radio with my two assistants as the verdict was read. We were stunned! It was quite clearly the most blatant use of excessive force I had ever encountered that didn't result in the death of the suspect. We were pretty sure of what would follow, and we were terrified, having lived through the Watts Riots and subsequent unrest. We went home early. I stopped on the way to pick up a box of 12-gauge ammo, just in case -- where I then lived, if you called the LAPD for help, you were lucky to have a helicopter fly overhead 30 minutes later.

BTW, I've been impressed by Rodney King -- he continues to try to be a peacemaker.

Yes the treatment of King on the video was Rough & extreme!
But There is one common sense rule he refused to follow!

Stop resisting and they will stop beating the cr@p out of you.

Also I have never seen or understood the justification or benefit of looting & burning down your own neighborhood because someone else's Civil rights were violated?

About a year or so later, being in poor health and Diabetic at the time, I earned myself a week long stay in the county palace from not having my medication right and getting behind the wheel of a automobile. Fortunately I was the only one hurt in the wreck and after sentencing I surrendered myself on the day his Honor said to pay my debt and haven't had any trouble since, along with much improved health.

It was a real insight to what was really going on during the riots!
It was Homey reunion time at the county jail. Many times I heard inmates greet each other, Wow! I haven't seen you since the riots! Boy that dumb f$%k Fa@@o Rodney King just didn't know when to stop and play dead!

After hearing similar comments for a few days along with What did you get it the Riots? What are you in for this time? ETC..

It was plain to me that these were nothing but opportunist punk criminals that didn't care less about King or his civil rights or any injustice in our society .

I hope that we don't have anymore of that ever happen again in L.A.

I personally think King is about as much of a peace maker as O.J. was innocent.

    Each to his own.

The LA riots were racial in nature, but does anyone else read rhino's post as a bit racist?

I am not a Racist in any sense of the word. And I don't appreciate being referred to as that.

That's what you hear from people when the can't argue on the valid points.
I don't know where you live? but the in last riot that was referred to There were Black, Mexican/Hispanic & yes!
Even some white looters. Didn't see any Asians?

The was truck driver Reginal Denny that was dragged from his truck, Shot, beaten & hit in the head with a brick for just trying to get to his next delivery.
He drove that truck for $8.00 and change a hour plus a couple of benneys
Are you going to tell me that "Foot Ball" Williams or any of his cohorts that did this CRIME would take the training & then the responsibility of that job?

I Judge people by there actions. Not Race, Religion, Creed, Sex orientation or any other thing you are implying.

    Mano, I don't know you?
But I expect a apology from you now.
I am of Jewish ancestry and my beautiful Wife is Hispanic, born in Mexico City!

We can discuss riots and other forms of destruction without calling each other names. But not in this thread, it seems, so it's closed.
