Got one of my own (thanks, Bill!) and, well, it's a weird little duck. It seems the regular-sizeed baseless model is different than the one ChrisLehrer uses.

It doesn't feel as dense as similar sized stones, doesn't raise noticeable mud with long soaks, and mud raised with a worn-down D8XX doesn't seem to cut faster or leave a different finish. At this time, I have only polished sides with the stone versus sharpening edges. It brings out a pleasing contrast between cladding and core steel, but isn't as dramatic as that left by a King 800 or Suehiro Rika. So for stuff that doesn't really matter, it's fast and user friendly.

Will try it for actual sharpening and see if it's easier or harder to get a smooth-cutting edge with 'bite' compared to the Naniwa 5K.

Polish doesn't really matter? But...but.....it looks so nice!

    Looking forward to hearing more.
