You should use warm water to give the yeast fermentation a head start. Anything from 80-130 degrees is fine. Anything warmer runs the risk of killing the yeast.

Is this true with any type of yeast? As you know there is one yeasts out there that you do not have to blend with water. The dry yeast goes right in the flour. In other words can the same temperature water be used for both types of yeasts?Originally Posted by Fred
Cold water will simply slow down the fermentation. You can use it if you like but warm water is better.
