Default My Photo of Traditional Knife Store in Japan

This is my photo of Aritsugi shop in Nishiki-dori Kyoto.
I can share with everyone who enjoy good knife, my photo skill is not good but it has many kinds of knife. I recommend this area for all who go to Japan, lots of good food produce too.
    Good fun, please enjoy.

    Excellent photos ozi,

I can quite easily see myself going bankrupt after a few trips to that shop, If I ever get to Japan I will surely check it out.

did you pick anything up yourself??

I was there in November. I'm glad the wife was with me, or I'd be broke right now.

It's not the sort of place for one hoping to get "cheap" knives in Japan, but it's in an amazing market. Kyoto's got its own unique produce (yuzu the size of softballs, giant red carrots, tomatos the size of currants) and as a food professional it really blew my mind. Next time I go to Kyoto, I'm definitely getting an apart-hotel so I can shop there and cook with those ingredients (and another new knife, hopefully).

    EDIT:
Forgot to mention -- the Aritsugu shop does custom monogramming at no extra cost. I got my name carved into the blade phonetically in kanji. With my luck it probably says "happless donkey fart" or somethin, but it looks pretty cool to westerners like myself.

Oh my word, I found myself wanting to scroll left and right on the pictures to see more. What a wonderful place. Imagine walking in there with the idea that you were going to purchase the ultimate set of knives, at any cost...possibly a collectors set and another ideal set just to use everyday but the very, very best.

If it is a traditional Japanese knife and they don't have it, you don't need it.

No kidding, we need one of them there 360 degree virtual tour deals for this topic.

I also don't think there is a credit card with a limit high enough to make me leave feeling I had everything I wanted from that store.

No, not in Aritsugi store that day because I already bought 2 knives before that and a grater for home (in Kappabashi, close to Asakusa)

I do have nice aritsugi knife though, I believe it was bought here and engraved my name in very old kanji.

Maybe back there very soon, I plan to buy usuba knife...

Other side of family is living near to Seki-City, there is one of best sword musemum and a good knife shop there with big sharpening wheel.
