Default My new Guillaume Côte damasteel knive are done

I should have them in hand soon, they're shipping tomorrow.
The 10" flexible fillet is of grosse rosen with Himalayan ram's horn, a collaboration of his design and my choice of materials and flex. He told me he'd make the steel look like rain on the water- looks to me like he pulled that off.
The 2" bird-trout is entirely my design, save Gill picked the Odin's Eye and used a bit of artistic license at the heel & tang. The scales are Paua select abalone.

Dear diary, running low on pop-tarts; no word yet from Publisher's Clearinghouse...

Well that depends on your perspective-

They're awesome if you just happen upon them...
    but...
if you look at his lack of adherance to my design, and how much of that expensive abalone that I bought, but that he kept for himself and didn't use on my order, and some surprising lack of attention to detail that I didn't notice at first- these knives kinda suck.

I can only recommend Gill Cote to people who are easy to please, who want to buy a knife already made. If you want someone to make you a custom knife, I recommend you keep looking. Better still, make it yourself.

The pic are in a thread in Fred's cutlery forum, here:

Beautiful knives. I'm sorry to hear that you are somewhat unhappy with them. Could you share some images of some of your own work please?

I'm in the process of putting together my knife shop. I just ordered the motor for my grinder. I was going to do the first one just draw-filing the bevels, but I decided to pull the trigger on a grinder kit and so I'm working on that first. I got the parts for the frame last week. Here's a thread on bladeforums discussing the grinder:

I've made a design for my first knife, an assisted-open folding fillet. I have the materials for it: AEB-L for the blade and frame, 410 for bolsters, black canvas micarta for the scales. 416 stock for pins. Still need a few more things I'll order while the blade is out for heat treat. You can be certain I'll post pics no matter how bad it turns out. After that I'll know if I have an aptitude, and I'll either continue making knives til the day I die, or sell the grinder and find a reliable custom knifemaker.

I've been fielding inquiries from people asking me to be more specific about the "surprising lack of attention to detail that I didn't notice at first". I guess I should get some pictures of what I'm referring to there. I'll try to get to that this week.

Sounds very exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing some image of your work.
